Sepsis is the leading cause of death from infection and its reported incidence is on the rise. Mortality rates from sepsis are higher than heart attacks, strokes or trauma. Sepsis needs to be viewed with the same urgency as these other life-threatening conditions and early, effective treatment can significantly decrease mortality.
