Phlebotomy Technician Learnership

Phlebotomy is the act of drawing or removing blood from the circulatory system through a puncture in order to obtain a blood sample for analysis and diagnosis. Phlebotomy is also performed to treat certain blood disorders.

Ampath Laboratories recruits candidates for participation in the Phlebotomy Technician Learnership. This two year program offers the opportunity for permanent employment. Successful candidates are trained in a medical laboratory and participate in classroom and workplace learning.

Technical Internship

Medical Technologists, Medical Laboratory, Scientists, Medical Technicians, Laboratory Assistants and Medical Scientists make up the core of the technical laboratory personnel in a medical laboratory. They are primarily involved with the analysis of patient samples, the results of which assist the doctor with the diagnosis and treatment of patients.

Achieve your registration as a Medical Technology or Medical Science Health Practitioner with the HPCSA. The scope of practice and scope of profession is regulated by the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA).

  • Medical Technologists qualify through achievement of the National Diploma (ND) Biomedical Technology.
  • Medical Laboratory Scientists achieve a degree in Bachelor of Health Science in Medical Laboratory Science (BHSc MLS).
  • Medical Technicians and Laboratory Assistants qualify through achievement of a Certificate for Medical Technician and Laboratory Assistant respectively.
